This is a must-read from Ed Zitron I have already been considering removing my content from LinkedIn. As an end-user, Facebook and Instagram have become a stream of interruptions. Unmediated/unregulated markets, left to their own devices, eventually shoot themselves in the head because of capitalist incentives to grow. Most executives and boards don't get this, fight regulation, and don't hold their fire, so the market becomes unbalanced, and customers eventually leave. For individual consultants like me, online channels have become close to worthless in terms of finding clients so then it is just extractive. https://lnkd.in/eH_rYp3b

I love this example businesses have way too many metrics now, which makes it impossible to focus. I have said for awhile now that people do not think enough about the ROI of ROI calculations but it applies to everything. Just because we have systems that CAN track everything does not mean it is meaningful and an entire industry is built committed to keeping analytics complicated… kinda brilliant in some ways because it is self-generative for the ‘experts’ but a completely useles and distracting operational cost for most organizations.

I asked ChatGPT to summarize my LinkedIn posts from the last 12 months, and it came up with this. For those with familiarity, how well would you say it did? LinkedIn says I own my data, but I cannot download any of my posts, only links to articles elsewhere. Am I crazy? This is not okay, and it may make me go back to scrape my own profile and delete any original content because I share a lot via posts, which LinkedIn seems to prioritize in its feed. I requested a full download, but it may take a while to get it.

Happy Tax Day to all who celebrate, but especially to Mark Cuban. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 Let's normalize making taxes the most patriotic thing you can do aside from serving in the military or being a public servant. And like Cindy Gallop suggests - strive to earn what you are worth so that you too can contribute to making our country great for everyone. We should all want a society where everyone is fed, housed, and educated. When people are desperate, we are all at risk. *with the expectation of here in Massachusetts, where it is Patriot's Day and therefore, taxes are due tomorrow. 🇺🇸

So fun catching up with two of the OG community managers this week - Rachel Luxemburg and Joe Pishgar and hearing about what they are still learning. A little older, hopefully wiser, and still committed to the idea that including people in creating solutions is powerful.

At Higher Logic Super Forum and happy to hear Conor Sibley say AI is B.S. because it is just synonymous with technology. It’s generative AI, not AI generally, that is new. Regardless the hype cycle is equivalent to the e- everything hype during the original .com boom. The discussion needs to be about data and what data is useful - and how can we use is to create links and structures that help people make connections. Having lots of conversations about the need for community to make data meaningful this week, which is so exciting because community + AI is where you get the most acceleration.
